Barking and Dagenham PostSalam on show

02 January 2008

TONY SALAM aims for the eighth straight win of his pro campaign when he appears on the Frank Maloney show at York Hall, Bethnal Green on February 1 - but will surely be keeping an eye on the feature fight of the night.

For the top of the bill tussle sees Tony Oakey and Peter Haymer clash for the British light-heavyweight title - a crown which Salam has firmly in his sights.

If he stays on the winning run the confident, Chadwell Heath based Salam may well face the winner later this year in an attractive title showdown.

The former ABA titleholder, who campaigned alongside his studies at the University of East London in Stratford, has already shown his ability to beat some of the top names in the division in his first year as a pro..

Hard-hitting Salam already holds a points win over Ovill McKenzie who started 2007 as the Commonwealth titleholder.

Punching prospects Dagenham lightwelter Ross Hewitt and Canning Town welterweight Jamie Radford, both on winning form on the Maloney December bill at Plaistow Leisure Centre, look to improve their winning runs on the York Hall promotion when they face selected rivals

Heavyweight John McDermott, lightweight Lee Cook welterweight Scott Woolford are also named for action on the York Hall supporting card.
