TONY Salam has set himself an ambitious target of fighting for a world title this year as he prepares for the biggest night of his professional career.

The 24-year-old, who trains at My Gym London in Finchley Central, is taking on former Commonwealth Games Gold medalist Courtney Fry in an eight-round contest at York Hall tomorrow night that will reward the winner with a shot at the British title.

And Nigerian-born Salam sees this fight as another big stepping stone on his path to the top.

“People tend to say I like to run before I can crawl, but I think there is a chance of me becoming world champion this year,” he said.

“I know it’s very unrealistic, it’s like a fantasy, but I keep dreaming it, and my dreams often come true.
